Rian Allen MSc, RPP, MCIP
Rian is a registered professional planner with over 20 years of extensive experience in Ontario. His expertise spans public, private, and non-profit sectors, and a diverse array of projects.
Rian holds a Master of Science in Rural Planning and Development from the University of Guelph, an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Laurentian University, a Diploma in Applied Geography from Laurentian University, and is a full member of the Ontario Professional Planning Institute (OPPI) and the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).
Born in Goderich Ontario, Rian began his planning career at the County of Huron, where agricultural and municipal planning matters were a major focus. As a policy planner, Rian was a member of the City of Waterloo Official Plan review team. In Toronto, Rian co-authored the first independent review of the Ontario Growth Plan with the Neptis Foundation, a regional planning think-tank, and assisted with the development of the Neptis Geoweb, a land use visualization tool for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.
Before starting Allen Planning Consulting in 2025, Rian spent more than a decade as the Senior Planner and Manager of Planning at the Township of Muskoka Lakes, and Senior Planner at a private planning consulting firm in Muskoka.
Rian's trusted and professional guidance has helped many clients achieve successful outcomes and realize their development goals. His strategic thinking and collaborative approach is centered on understanding the unique needs and challenges of each project, and delivering tailored strategies that are sustainable and meet regulatory requirements. Rian is dedicated to helping clients navigate the complexities of land use planning in Muskoka and beyond with confidence and success.
